The expansion was released in standard as well as Collector's Edition packages. This patch introduced some of The Burning Crusade's content prior to the release of the expansion itself - including a revamp of the honor system, skirmish Arena matches, and a new Looking For Group interface. In preparation for The Burning Crusade, Blizzard Entertainment released patch 2.0.1 in North America and Europe on 5 December 2006. The voice acting work in the brief clips I saw was top-notch, made all the more appreciable by the strength of the animation. Their eyes shimmer with reflected light and vibrancy, their lips and cheeks display tenderness, sincerity, and sadness with extraordinary clarity. Durotan’s and Draka’s expressions are marvelously empathetic and detailed as they rest in the evening and talk about the name of their unborn child. Director Duncan Jones is justifiably proud of the sophistication of the facial capture technology on display in Warcraft’s orcish main characters. ![]() The characters are marvelously detailed and shaded, but icons like Gul’dan and Durotan are instantly recognizable. ILM has done a commendable job of emulating the cartoon feel of Warcraft games on the big screen in a way that doesn’t look cheap. Warcraft’s franchise’s in-game art has evolved tremendously along with technology, but the bright colors and exaggerated proportions of its 20th century PC roots remain a part of the aesthetic. A custom piece of software dubbed Haircraft was created internally to deal with the difficulty, and to the designers’ credit, the hair in every clip we saw did look pretty great. Generating and modeling the long, thick hair of the orcs is a tremendous challenge in character design, and ILM obviously spent a lot of time on the process. The topic comes up over and over throughout the event.
